Our focus is to promote the integration of legumes and other underutilized crops in sustainable agri-food systems and to release their environmental, health and social values. Our aim is to drive Europe’s shift towards more resilient, environmentally sound, health- promoting, socially-fair, and economically profitable, sustainable agri-food systems. We work on the interface between plant and human nutrition, understanding the mechanisms that control nutrient uptake, transport and storage, their role in sustainable diets, and the role of climate change on nutritional provision. We are an interdisciplinary team, with track record on nutrition, genetics, agronomy, microbiology, biochemistry and environmental sciences. We have a broad international network of SMEs, NGOs, and academic partners and extensive experience in conducting EU funded projects focused on value chains, sustainable diets, foods systems and agrobiodiversity. We are located at Universidade Católica Portuguesa (UCP), Porto, Portugal, and our activities are developed at the Centro de Biotecnologia and Química Fina (CBQF).
