The PlanTech Lab (Plant Biotechnology for Sustainability) is located at Escola Superior de Biotecnologia, Universidade Católica Portuguesa, Porto, Portugal, in the beautiful Foz Campus, and its activities are developed at the Centro de Biotecnologia and Química Fina (CBQF). CBQF was established in 1991 and was granted in 2004 the status of State Associated Laboratory. Its activities are centered on applied biotechnology, with emphasis in food and environmental issues. It involves 160 researchers, 44 of whom hold a PhD degree. The PlanTech group develops work in the areas of plant biotic and abiotic stress, with special emphasis on plant nutrition, plant pathology and bioinformatics. The objective is to integrate competences from researchers in diverse fields, including computer science, biology, and nutrition and to address current challenges in the general field of plant nutrition and food sustainability.
